vache ekadashi, Bhishmudu parmatunilo sahityam pondina roju Krishna will take
Dharmaraju to Bhishmudu who is on ampashila(bed
made of Arrows) to learn all dharamas and how to overcome the effect of
killing people in war. At that time, Bhishma will do Krishna sthuti(Prayers).
This episode demonstrates who
tough Truth is and how Time will behave (Dharamamu anthe entha kasthamoh,
Kalalamu anthe ela vuntundho anedhi thelusthundhi).
Bhrama arranged sabha(meeting), to ensure how Bhakthi
will help people, and how to make them to walk in the path of God. Ganga entered
this sabha. Because of breeze Ganga’s saree waved (Gali valla Ganaga pavitha
tholigindhi). One Rajarshi look in a different way and Ganga also looked in the
same way and they both forgot that they are in the sabha conducted by Brahma.
Brahma was stunned with the behavior of Ganga and Rajarshi and they got a curse
that they both "will take birth in Earth".
Rajarshi was thinking in which
stomach he should be born. In bharatha varsham there was a king named Pradeepudu, and rajarshi decided to
take birth as his son and at the same time Ganga was also coming and Ganga felt
badly because of her Rajarshi has been troubled. While she was coming down to
earth, she saw Asthavasulu (one type of godly people) and they were crying, she
asked why you are crying, they said that, when we and our wife’s were passing
by Vashistha Maharshi ashram and in that one lady who is wife of one vasuvu
named Juvu asked about the Glow of Kamadenhu(Cow
named Nandhini dhenuvu) which is tied in the ashramam of Vashistha Maharshi.
Since drinking the milk of such Kamadhenu will fulfill any of the wish. So I
have a friend named Vusinara and she is ill-health, if I make her to drink the
milk of this Kamadhenu then she will be never sick and she will always roam
with us and decided to steal the Kamadenhu as they found that Vashistha Maharshi
is not there in the ashramam. They have stolen Kamadhenu and took away, Vashistha
Maharshi came back and found that Kamadhenu is missing and with his
intelligence he understood that this has been done by Asthavasulu and gave a
curse that they will be born as people in Earth. They requested to Vashistha
Maharshi to remove the curse but Vashistha Maharshi said that 7 of them will
get less curse meaning that they will die immediately after they take birth as
they have justed helped 8th one to steal the Kamadhenuvu but the 8th
one Juvu will be born as brave and create a great history and then he will
return back. So 8th one has stay for some time. That’s why they
started moving towards Earth and same time they saw Ganga coming towards Earth,
as these 8 people have to be born on earth. Meanwhile they saw Ganga and asked
why Ganga is going. Ganga explained her story of getting cursed by Brahma.
These people asked Ganga to do one help as they have to take birth so they
asked Ganga to be their mother instead of choosing someone. She said ok and
they were waiting for the marriage of Ganga.
King Pradeepudu does not have
kids and was praying for children. Pradepudu is the brahmarshi and Ganaga came
and sat in the lap of pradeepudu and he got disturbed from thapasyah and he was
checking who this lady is?
And asked, about her? She said
that she want to become wife of him.
But you did a mistake, by sitting
in my right lap since the daughter and daughter-in-law can only sit on right
lap. So know you cannot be my wife, so become wife for my son. (athmavah putra nameshi
means father will be in the Son in a soul form).
Rajarshi by looking at the
situation he decided to be born as son of King Pradeepudu. Shanthana maharaja (Rajarshi)
is the son of Pradeepdu and when he became young he told the story.
One day Shanthana Maharraju went
for hunting and he was tired and he sat beside river ganga and he saw the Ganga
and wanted to marry her, but Ganga put a condition that after marriage whatever
she does has to be accepted since she kept that word of vasuvulu in mind and
there could be a possibility that shanthana maharaja will stop her and she
might break the promise given to Asthavasuvulu and if he stops her then she
will leave immediately. First son born and she left that son in Ganga and
similarly she did for 7 times. 8th time great personality born and Shantana
Maharaja put a restriction and scolded Ganga, they had fight for the 8th one
and she said she will take the boy and give it to Vashishta maharshi and
parushuramudu and make him learn dhanurvidya (Shooting with Bows and Arrows)
and she will give him back.
Shanthana maharaju was alone and
forgot about the word from Ganga and was romaing in the banks of Ganga and saw
a boy firing arrows like anything and he asked about him and enquired then
Ganga told he is "devavrathudu also known as Gangeyudu" who knows
about Dharma and Gnaga kept her word of returning back the son and submitted him
and left from there. Shanthana Maharaju was old at that time.
One day when Shanthana maharaju
went to hunting and he saw Yojana Gandhi. Sathyavathi---Yojana Gandhi (yojana
duramulo gandhamu vasana vasthundhi in Telugu means if she stands a mile away
also a nice sandal smell will be coming from her). Shanthana Maharaju wanted to
marry her and she said if you have to marry he has to talk to her father (dasya
raju) and her father put a condition to give the kingdom to this Sathyavathi’s sons.
Shanthana Maharaju left back without talking anything and devavrathudu found his
father being in sad mood, and he enquired the reason for his sadness and came
to know about the condition of dasya raju and he went and talked to dasya raju
about his fathrs marriage then Dasya raju have put one more condition that if
you get married then your sons will fight for the kingdom as you are elder so
you should not have sons. Then devavrathudu took a strong and bold decision and
implemented without breaking his decision hence from then he is called as
Bhishmacharya. Since he followed the word. (Beeshminchi prathiygna
theesukunnadu, mariyu acharinchadu kabatti he is Acharya).
Father was very happy and gave 2 boons
for Bhishmacharya
> No one can beat you in the
war field while you are holding Bow and Arrow
> When ever you wish at that
time only death will come to you till then it will not even see you (swachandha
maranamu)
Shanathana Maharaju and
sathyavathi gave birth to 2 sons named chitrangudu elder, vichitraveeryudu.
chitrangudu went one day to hunt
while he was bachelor and there was a gandharvah with the same name so they had
to fight for the name and in that fight chitrangudu was dead. know only Vichitraverydu
was left, and vichitraverydu never thought of God and always enjoying so know
because of his word Bhishmacharya has the responsibility of marrying
vichitraverydu. So he started the hunt for girl for vichitraverydu.
Kasi raju had 3 daughters’ amba,
ambika, ambalika. Swayamavar is anounced by kasi raju and vichitraverydu did
not go and Bheeshma went there and all were stunned by looking at Bheeshma. Bheeshma
challenged them and no one could face him, so Bheeshma brought the 3 daughters
of Kasi raju to his place for marriage with Vichitraveryudu.
Vichitraveryudu was getting ready
for marriage but Amba went and told to Bheeshma that she is in love with
another king named Salvudu, and asked him to free her so that she can go to
salvudu. Bheeshma went and dropped her but salvudu did not agree as a matter of
being Kshtriyah he did not accept her since she was taken in front of all the
people by Bheeshma and accepting her know will be an insult to him.
Amba was very unhappy and she
went to ashramam and asked for thapovanam(want to become a sanyasi) to rushis
but they denied for sanyasam since she is young and she being around might
disturb others. Amba grandfather(mothers father) came on that day to the rushis
place and saw Amba there and asked then she told her grandfather the complete
episode and asked for help. Her grandfather brought her to Parushurama
Ashramamu as Parushurama is the Guru for Bheeshma. Parushuramah was feeling
pity about her situation. Parushuramah decided to talk to Bheeshma and went and
stood near the outskirts of the place of
Bheeshma. News of Arrival of Parushurama has reached Bheeshma and Bheeshma brouhgt
a cow and did donation of cow to his guru parushurama, and he explained that Vichitraverudu
have denied to marry Amba since Amba have gone to Salvudu so Vichitraveryudu
felt that as an insult to him and marrying her is not right. Amba was helpless
since Parushurama could not do anything so Parushurama decalared a fight
against Bheeshma since Bheeshma did not do any help in the case of Amba.
Parushuramudu and Bheeshma had
great fight for 22 days. And Bheeshma decided to use arrow which was prayed
with "viswa karma mantram" ( this will make the person to fall asleep
for the next day and a person who will
sleep for the next day is considered as dead according to war rules). But Naradas
came and explained that you are about to make your guru dead so if you do it
then it going to be a big pain.
Similary Parushurama’s father
jamadhagni came and explained to Parushurama that Bheeshma is your student and
killing a student is not a good things, so please with draw your fight.
Finally, both have withdrawn and
Amba did not get help in any manner and felt that Bheeshma is the reason for
her todays worst situation and she decided to kill Bheeshma but Bheeshma cannot
be killed so easily as he had a boon from his father, so she started doing thapasyah
for Shanmukudu (Lord Subramanyah) and she got a Garland from Subramanay and the
person who wears this garland will make the Bheeshma to lose the war but no one dared to wear it since fighting
with Bheeshma is not possible since his guru Parushurama aslo withdrawn himself. So no one tried came
forward. Again a failure for Amba and she again started doing thapasyah for Rudrudu
(Lord Shiva) and she understood from Shiva that this is not possible for her in
this life then she took another life, but at that time also it was not possible
for her then again she took next life as lady and failed and again she took life
as shikandhi (drupadudu kumarudu) and waiting to kill Bheeshma.
Vichitraverydu was dead because
of disease Phthisis (ksyah in telugu) and ambika, ambalika were lost husband
before getting the children and his death made his mother Sathyavathi anxious
to save his soul for soul for heaven by begetting offspring for him
vicariously. For this purpose she asked Bheeshma but he denied her request as
said that he will not go near any lady, but Bheeshma gave her an idea that it
is possible with a Brahmin person who is a pure and devotional. Then
Sathyavathi have chosen Veda Vyasa for this purpose as he was also her son.
(Before marrying Shanthana Maharaju, Sathyavathi had a son born for her and
Rishi Prasara and this son is none other than Great VedaVyasa).
Ambika got the blind Dhritarastra,
Ambalika got the Pandu and with one of the maid Servants the virtuous Vidura
who outstood by his righteousness and devotion to his friend Shri Krishna.
Know look at the poor situation
of Bheeshma. Bheeshma denied sathyavathidevi request, and never married, did
lot of sacrifice but there is no meaning for his sacrifice.
One hundred sons were born to
Dhritharastraby his wife Gandhari, a princess of Gandhara, of whom the wicked
Bhuryodhana was the eldest.
Pandu who on account of a curse,
feared to copulate with his wives on penality of death, had also vicariously,
on his wife Kunti, the great Yudhisthira by god Dharma, the lord of piety,
Bhima by the wind god and Arjuna by Indra. By his second wife, Madri, he got
Sahadeva and Nakula from the AshwiniKumaras (the twin celestial physicinas).
These 5 are pandavas.
Bheeshma has become grandfather
and story continued. He helped all the grand kids in learning the Archery,
Dharma Shatra. But
> Why Bheeshma was behind
kauravas? If he would not have been with them then Kurukshetram will not happen
since Dhuryodhana had confidence on Bheeshma and Karna only and keeping these 2
in mind he started the war. As these 2 are powerful heroes.
> Why bed of arrows for Bheeshma?
Bheeshma never crossed the line
of Dharma but once he behaved like “missing but not missing” Dharma and that
situation is when Dhraupathi was insulted in the meeting and which Bheeshma did
not intervened to stop the insult to Bhraupathi. Bheeshma had a tougher
situation since if he Says Dharma then Draupathi will lose her respect if
Dharma is not told then Draupati will get insulted and in-turn he had a fear
that Dhraupathi might curse him. Instead of doing anything Bheeshma kept quiet
just by saying that "Dharmaraju (Yudhistra)
himself is not in a position to say something so how can I speak. In this way Bheeshma
had situation of “missing but not missing Dharma” but he never thought of a fight
against pandavas. Since all her his grandsons.
So missing Dharma is as good as
not doing Dharma that’s why “Bed of Arrows”. So it is so tough to follow
Dharma.
Dharma raju, respected Bheeshma
in war. Duryohdhana use to scold Bheeshma every day irrespective of age of
Bheeshma and use to say you are doing partiality for which Bheeshma use to feel
very bad. On 9th day, Bhesshma shown his specialty. Everyone was frightened
and bheeshma and arjuna was fighting.
In the war, Krishna said that he
will not use a weapon bur Bheeshma said I will make Krishna to use a weapon. So
here a question is who will win, The God (Krishna) or the Devotee (Bheeshma).
Bheeshma was a great devotee of SriKrishna.
In the war, he was showing his
excellence and no one was able to withstand Bheeshma and he started attacking
Arjuna and Arjuna was unable to face Bheeshma and was getting Injured badly,
and made Krishna Angry since Arjuna was getting hit badly. Finally, Krishna
thought of using his Sudharshana Chakra, and then Bheeshma have saluted Krishna
and said I am great devotee and follower of you and I have made you to use a
weapon and then he immediately kept his bow aside and prayed for Krishna,
Bheeshma won because of his respect/devotion/Bhakti
for Krishna. Here Bhakthi has won since God will always save the person who
believed in him (ninu namukunna bhakthulanu nuuvu kapaduthavu in Telugu).
Finally. Krishna along with
Panadavas went to Bheeshma’s cottage in the night. They asked Bheeshma, Ohh Grandfather how you will
get killed since today we have seen you and if you continue like this no one
will be able to withstand you. Bheeshma had laughed and said in 3 cases I will
not use my Bow and Arrow:
> If some one flag falls from
the Vehicle used in the war.
> if someone shows their back
> If she male stands infront
of me (adadhi ga putti magavadhi laga vunthe in telugu, born like a lady and being like gent in English)
Bheeshma told about the secret of
shikandhi (who was earlier Amba and wanted to take revenge on him) and said
that bring Shikandhi into the war then I will not use my weapon and ask
Shikandhi to start firing weapons on me followed by Arjuna.
Hearing this, Arjuna was unhappy
and crying because of the respect they have to Bheeshma and his history, every
time Bheeshma did always good for us, taught us well and when we lost our
father Pandu, he took the ownership of our betterment and brought us up and he
is a great person so such a great person do I have to hit him having shikandhi
with me?
Next day, they Shikandhi have come and put 100 arrows in a single shot to complete the Revenge. Finally Bheeshma have fallen on Bed of Arrows. It was the Dhakshinayanamu and he was waiting for uttayrayanamu and Ekadashi falls and have planned for his death on his own on Ekadashi. That’s why we pay respects to great person who sacrificed his complete life for Dharma as “Bheeshma Ekadashi”
Krishna took all Pandavas and
asked to learn all the dharma sutras from Bheeshma. Bheeshma first performs
KalaSthuthi, since any one can beat anything but not Kalamu(Time), so look how
Kalamu is powerful. He identified that his story is a best example to
demonstrate how powerful Time is.
Any problem then think about the
below poem so that Dhayriyam (Courage)
will not be lost in any situation, since the moment courage is lost everything
is lost:

Rajata Dharmajundu, Suraja sunthandhuantha thanvi
Shatrodwejikamina Ganddevam villuatha
Saradhi sarwayoga samyojakudina chakri atha
vugra Gadharundhiyeh Bheemudu yajiki thodu vachunatha
ee pandavulaku kasthamu kalugutha entha chitramohhh
"
Dharmaraju is a great raja and he
got a brother Arjuna who is the son of devendra. Does Arjuna not have a weapon?
Means he got a Bow and Arrow that is powerful and no one can touch such a Bow
and arrow and Arjuna can fire arrows with both of his hands.
Ok he has the capacity but not
have a person who can drive his vehicle means Arjuna got a Driver who is
Krishna who can save Arjuna every time in any situation and always protect
Arjuna.
ok assuming that Krishna missed
then he does not have any one else means
he got a brother who Bheema who
is always beside Arjuna and with his Gadha he can hit 1000 of elephants such a
great personality is Bheema. But having all the things still they could not
save upapandavas (sons of Pandavas who were silently killed in the hands of
Ashwadhama while they were sleeping in the cottage).
Even then the problems and the
hurdles never left the pandavas. It is astonishing that such a great pandavas
facing problems….
So time is so powerful and it
does not look at who the person is. Since great pandavas could not sustain the
problem so what an ordinary man can do?
Now Vyasa describe the
powerfulness of Time
"Kalohi Balawan Kartha
Sathatham Sukah Dukahayohoo
Narahnam Parathanthranam
Punyah Papanah Yogatahaa"
Time is powerful and it the
performer, and every minute one will be in either state of Happiness or
Unhappiness. Nothing is there in the hands of Human, it is all under the
control of the God who is powerful.
Because it is written in fate by Lord
(Paramtha) so all runs according to him. But Pandavs did not lose their courage
and they moved forward and finally attained the Liberation (mokshamu).
Know the Ekadhasi time started
coming and Bheesha did the Prayers (Sthuthi) for SriKrishna and attained the
liberation.
Example of Chetak---Raja Maharana
Pratap singh had a horse named chetak and it is a type of horse which has the
ability to bring the Raja back to the palace safely and smartly if Raja is
tired or in asleep during the fight. It has the ability even to safe guard the
Raja from enemies and smartly escape from the enemies and bring him to the
palace safely. Such a smart Horse is Chetak, that’s why the Bajaj have taken
the IP and gave the name to their vehicle as "Bajaj Chetak".
